It’s no secret that it's hard to plan a trip to the large cities in France. There is so much to see, so much to do and even more to eat, so it's hard to decide which things to add to your itinerary. It is also important to get the most out of your trip and fully experience and immerse yourself in the city. That is why we have created a guide for all the best things to do in order to fully discover the many wonderful cities in France.

Take Advantage of Walking

In order to fully experience a city, walking is the best thing that you can do! This way, you can explore different neighborhoods, streets and hidden gems that you might have otherwise never seen! This is also a great way to exercise while you are on your vacation as well! There are plenty of excellent ways to make walking more enjoyable, for example with guided audio tours offered by sites such as Rewind Stories, or by simply grabbing a coffee to enjoy while you stroll through the city center.

Try Public Transportation

Although it was just mentioned that it’s best to walk throughout the city, taking public transportation is also a great way to experience what it's like to actually live like a local! It is recommended to try the bus, metro, subway or train, which are all super cost-effective as well. You can experience the delays, watch the commuters and see what it's like to get around the city via different methods of transportation.

Use Guided Tours

It is becoming more and more popular to use guided tours to explore a city. These guides have excellent tips, advice and can show you places that only locals know! One perfect example of this is Rewind Stories, which offers city guides for some of the largest cities in France, including Paris, Lyon and Marseille. With this app you can fully immerse yourself in the city as you can keep your phone in your pocket while it uses your location to provide real time directions and information! Thus, you don’t have to be staring at your phone the whole time, which can take away from the wonderful experience of exploring a new city.

Shop in the Local Markets and Shops

If you want to have the most authentic cuisine, then it's best to shop at the local markets. Here you can find fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, baguettes, olives as well as fish. This food is always fresh and better than anything you could find at a grocery store, for an excellent price! If you are staying in an accommodation that has a kitchen, you can also buy ingredients and find a recipe for a classic French dish to recreate! This is a perfect way to experience France as if you are a local!

Try to Speak the Native Language

If you are visiting another country where you don’t speak the language, it is always best to try and learn a few key phrases for shopping and interacting with the locals. This will not only help you feel more connected to the city, but will also be a nice gesture that the locals will see as endearing and respectful. There are countless resources that have the most common words and phrases that you can use during your stay in the city.

Relax and Enjoy!

Now that you have received some excellent advice for traveling though the beautiful cities in Paris, it is time to plan your next trip! Try to enjoy the city and not rush too much to have a relaxing and enjoyable time during your stay. In addition, follow the advice given in this article for an even better experience in France.
