Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria

Winter is quickly coming round and as the days get darker earlier and colder, it has many of us wondering just where we can escape to. There are many choices this time of year, with a lot of European cities providing the ideal festive inspired break, but if you’re a sun seeker you are going to want to go that bit further afield. Places such as the Caribbean are great this time of year but can often be very expensive and have a long flight time. If you are looking for something a little more middle-ground, where the flight time is reasonable but the weather is still much better than the UK, look no further than Gran Canaria. Here are some reasons why you should go to Gran Canaria for your holiday.

There are so many places to stay

One of the best things about Gran Canaria is that it offers something for everyone. You can go and stay in one of the many beautiful holiday rentals in Gran Canaria, with beautiful villas that you can spend your break in. No matter if you are looking for something family-friendly or self-catering, or perhaps luxurious and indulgent, you are sure to find it here. The island isn’t too big so wherever you find, it is sure to be in a good location that isn’t too far from other amenities. It can be a good idea to rent a car to get around.

It’s a great family destination

When it comes to what to do in Gran Canaria, you are spoilt for choice and that is one of the things that makes it such a fantastic family destination. There is the Palmitos Park which is a botanic park, aviary and dolphinarium, you could visit the Plaza de Santa Ana or head to the Dunas de Maspalomas - a protected dune and mini desert experience. It’s a good idea to pre-book your tickets to any experiences before you go as this will enable you to get the best price and also enable you to find discounts if there are any.

It’s not too expensive

Another great thing about Gran Canaria is that it isn’t overly expensive as a destination. Everything from the flights to the accommodation are reasonably priced and you can find it a good place if you need to budget. There are also many free activities to do and if you stay somewhere such as a villa which is self catered, it saves you a lot of money also. Food and drink for eating out is also known to not be ridiculously pricey, but is a good quality to check out some local eateries!

These are just a few reasons why you should head to Gran Canaria for your next holiday. Thecanary islands are about four hours by plane from the UK and can transport you from dreary, rain-dredged England to somewhere much more beautiful and topical.
