5 Reasons Why You Must Go on a Cruise

February 24, 2020  |  Guest Post: Mark Gray

It is essential that we make one thing very clear: cruise holidays are not for everyone.

Right, now that’s out of the way, let’s take a look at why cruise holidays are becoming increasingly popular, what you can experience on one, and why you should consider the idea of venturing aboard a cruise ship for your next holiday.

The Next Generation

Cruise ships of the past were, very often, quite cramped and claustrophobic affairs. The idea of having hundreds – perhaps even thousands – of people stuck together on a smallish boat in the middle of the ocean would, for many, be the idea of a holiday nightmare.

However, the current crop of cruise ships – and the ones that are planned for the future – are a world apart from the vessels of the ‘80s and ‘90s. To put that into some perspective, let’s take a look at the largest cruise ship in the world, Royal Caribbean’s ‘Symphony of the Seas’.

Here are some of the ship’s most impressive features:

  • It can host 6,680 passengers and 2,200 members of staff at the same time
  • It has 22 restaurants over 18 decks
  • It contains a water park, a basketball court, a full-scale ice rink, and two rock-climbing walls
  • There is a park which contains over 20,000 plants
  • It allows guests to have lessons on everything from pottery and cocktail making to cooking and dancing

However, while this is impressive beyond belief, Royal Caribbean has already announced that it is set to construct an even larger vessel in 2021, though currently very little is known about it, other than it will be the biggest leisure ship ever to take to the ocean.

What makes cruises so great?

To be honest, there are many more than five reasons why you should go on a cruise for your next vacation. To keep it simple, we narrowed it down to five terrific reasons why a cruise vacation is the best choice more than ever before.

1. It’s easy to make plans or be spontaneous

The last thing you want when you are on a holiday is to experience stress, but 36% of people worry about things going wrong on the first day alone. Others get stressed about making plans before they’ve even left the house. But on a cruise ship, all the activities, bars and restaurants are just a little walk away, so it’s easy to plan your visits to them. However, if you’re more of a spontaneous type, you don’t have to think about what to eat or what to do until you want to.

2. You can wake up somewhere new almost every day

One of the best parts of a cruise is that you can fall asleep, and when you wake up you get the opportunity to explore a completely new town or city. Not only that, but you can do so without being burdened by bags or luggage. Just leave your possessions safely locked away in your cabin.

3. You can meet like-minded people

When you are on a cruise, you will end up interacting with like-minded people from all over the world, meaning you can become friends with individuals that you might never have met otherwise. It tends to be incredibly easy to strike up conversations because people are in a relaxed mood and will very often have something in common. This is especially true if you meet them in a class, tour or experience.

4. You can explore the entire world

Of course, you cannot explore the entire world on just a solitary cruise, but there are so many options available that whatever your interests, or wherever you fancy visiting, there will be something for you. Whether you want to cruise around lakes, up and down rivers, want to stay warm or would like to head to arctic climes, there’s something for everyone.

5. Almost everything is paid for

The fact that you can pay for almost everything before your trip is not only great for your peace of mind, but it means that you don’t have to worry about carrying cash around with you at all times. You will, of course, require money if you want to do things in the places you visit, but this is not necessary on the ship.
