June 25, 2020 Guest Post: Penny Marshall

The United Kingdom is a union of several countries, including Northern Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and England. These countries are, without a doubt, some of the most fascinating destinations to visit in Europe. Talk about a rich cultural heritage, beautiful scenery, adrenaline-charged man- made wonders, unique natural attractions… you name it! You will find a bit of everything you love in the United Kingdom.

The diversity of this country is intriguing, which can make it tough to find the perfect place to spend a vacation. When you decide to stick to your guide book, you may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of places you're advised to check out within your short visit.

Here is the good news – it's time you throw your guide book in the trashcan and discover the best UK getaways wth The Travelling Souk! Some of the best places to visit in the United Kingdom include:

1. Edinburgh

Edinburgh is more than just the capital of Scotland. It’s not the most unusual city getaway but it is one of the most attractive and most visited cities in the United Kingdom. This city is famous for its well-preserved culture and historic buildings. Perhaps the most iconic landmark that has put Edinburgh in the map is the Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh Castle is one of the highlights of visiting this city. It is perched on a rocky promontory and can be seen from all corners of this old city. It was constructed in the 13th century, and it has remained one of the most intriguing attractions that attract millions of visitors annually. Other historical sites you can check out in this old, yet dazzling city are Old Town Royal Mile and the Palace of Holyrood house.

In case you love adventure, get out of the city centre and drive through Scotland’s splendid highlands that will give you a reason to come back over and over. Endeavour to climb Ben Nevis, and remember to take memorable pictures when you get to the peak of the highest mountain in the UK. When night falls, relax in a local club, order your favourite drink, and dance to your preferred music.

2. Devon

Apart from Cornwall, there is no other destination in the UK that competes with Devon as the top seaside spot. Factually, this haven is a 450-mile piece of beauty characterized by sleepy seaside villages, windswept bays, and vibrant marine life. Its inland is also a cocoon of excitement, thanks to its untamed national parks, action-filled bohemian markets, and vast countryside that defines its culture and diversity.

Apart from its incredible coastline, Devon is also a place of luxury. Boutique hotels and restaurants are fanning throughout the destination. Throughout your stay, book accommodation at cosy, characterful independent cottages and enjoy living a life of lavishness and tranquil opulence. It is also a romantic hideaway where you can redefine your love and develop a happy family.

Whether you are looking for foodie hotspots, deluxe pubs, fashionable gems, rich culture, a Mediterranean feel, parks, or serene natural environments, you will find them in these amazing getaways in the UK. Why don’t you do yourself a favour and check out these getaways at least once in your life?

4. London

Are you looking for an all in one destination in the United Kingdom? Well, if you are, don't leave the UK without paying London a visit. London is the country's sprawling capital, which boasts of thousands of fun-filled things that can keep you busy throughout your visit to the UK. A quick tour in the city will introduce you to its spine-tingling history, which is carefully preserved in the spectacular Tower of London. This is a must-see attraction that is conveniently located along the River Thames beside the stunning Tower Bridge. It was once a prison and a palace, and today, this 1,000-year-old haven is home to beautiful displays of weaponry, armor, and jewels.

To get the most out of London, consider visiting Buckingham palace and become a royal guest to Britain’s royal family. If you are lucky, you will experience the elegant pageantry of the changing of the guard, or you could take a guided tour to the Place’s State Rooms. To do this, however, you need to book in advance.

Other attractions to check out in this city include Parliament Buildings, Westminster Abbey, and Big Ben. Before you leave, ensure you lease a London car rental and check out the outskirts of the city. Some places you need to see as you drive is South Kensington, which is home to the best museums in the UK, including the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Also, go to Trafalgar Square, which hosts the popular National Portrait Gallery and the legendary Nelson’s Column.
