Tulip Tree
Tulip Tree was founded in 2006 by the interior designer Heather O’Connor and Ruth Talbot for whom Yoga has become a major distraction.
Missing London and frustrated by the lack of decorative objects to buy in rural Berkshire they decided to sell neutral, simple, comforting goods which epitomise rural chic; the traditional country look. Paradoxically they were inspired by French rural living and yet all the products are sourced from the UK.
They try to souce things from people who use natural products and promote a sustainable way of living, for example, the re-usable sandwich wraps and the Onya bags. The businesses they deal with are small and they know them and their raw materials intimately for example the pewter in the pewter spoons made by Glover and Smith. It is 92% pure tin with small amounts of copper and other metals added to give it additional strength. Tin is a plentiful, non-toxic resource and tin mining has little or no impact on the environment.
They make an effort to keep their prices as low as possible.
