Country Victualler

The Country Victualler, based in Nottinghamshire hosted The Travelling Souk in 2008 at their home, Winkburn Hall where the family have lived since 1695. True to form they provided the best fare for lunch we have ever seen. Eminently hospitable, Richard & Jane Craven-Smith-Milnes wined and dined the stallholders before the event as well.

Together they produce the finest selection of hams, pates, smoked meat and chickens and Christmas pudding ever tasted. Their Alderton Ham is based on a secret recipe acquired from Colonel Dickinson, late of The Ulster Rifles. Anyone who has a large family, a party or a holiday with many mouths to feed should have one in the larder. It is utterly delicious and feeds 40.

They supply Fortnum & Mason, Harvey Nichols and Partridges of Sloane Street. In 2007 The Daily Mail voted their ham the best in a blind tasting. However, they have plenty of other awards including the Millenium Speciality Food Tasting Award for ‘Best Ham’. Even Rick Stein approves and visited Winkburn to taste the Alderton Ham after Richard appeared on Rick’s Christmas Food Hero programme. There are no additives in anything apart from the necessary curing preservatives in the ham. Their mouthwatering range can be delivered anywhere in the UK on the day you wish.
