Set of 6 Unusual Hand Painted Porcelain Mugs  (3 red flowers + 3 blue flowers)

Totally beautiful, translucent hand painted porcelain mugs – the clay and technique used give a unique result.  A blue or red morning glory is painted in relief on the face of the mug which gives a deep lustrous effect. 

This subtle, translucent, porcelain mug is an unusual example of hand painted under glazed porcelain.  It is called Enamel Colour Porcelain and it originated in China in the 17^th century.  It was at its height of popularity with the Qing emperors of the 18^th Century.  The royal artists used bright enamel colour, painted with great skill.  These modern day articles are finely hand sculpted and then hand painted in bright colours to create a delicate, three dimensional decoration.

The porcelain is translucent.  The flower decoration is in relief and the paints are applied to this three dimensional flower (three dimensional effect is difficult to see from the picture).  The morning glory design appears on the front and the back is plain.

The mugs are entirely hand made and hand decorated and so there will be imperfections consistent with this. Suitable for dishwasher and microwave.
